Who is ready for another round of what-to-do-this-week-when-you’re-bored? I know I am! So during these hot summer days, make some time to get outside and enjoy Jacksonville with all the great events that are going on.

WEDNESDAY, FOURTH OF JULY – EVERYTHING

– It’s the 4th of July – HOLLA! If you’re still looking for a party, make your way over to Jax Beach for an array of choices. If you can rent or even buy a bike, cruise through 1st Street with the whole rest of the town as people get drunk and celebrate being an American. As the day winds down and darkness creeps in, you can head to the beach for a grand display of fireworks over the beach around 9 PM.

– While a $50 ticket price may seem hefty, this even includes it ALL. River and Post will be grilling up all the classics and serving both drinks and sweets at this fun BBQ! They also will have live music from local singer, Barrett Thomas. Once the sun starts setting, you’ll be able to view the fireworks that light up the beautiful St. Johns River.

Thursday, July 5

– If you’re one of those crazy night owls, from 9 PM to 2 AM, Eclipse in Riverside will be holding some late-night karaoke! The best part is that you receive a free shot when you sing your first song, so you can’t be afraid to belt it out. There is no cover and they have great drink specials all night long.

– Willing to travel a bit outside of Jacksonville? Cumberland Island is Georgia’s largest and southernmost barrier island. With a beautiful trip through Cumberland Island, you get an outstanding view of the salt marshes and wildlife, and even a close-up view of the ruins of the Dungeness Mansion. Hosted by Amelia River Cruises in Fernandina Beach, this outdoorsy event is only $25 and, of course, is incredibly fun!

Friday, July 6

– This musical performance (with spoken poetry, if you’re into that) is held every Friday in Jacksonville. With a passion for music and a goal to increase the level of literacy in society, the Jazz Poetry Cafe aims to be a communication portal for not just us Jacksonville peeps, but for those around the world! Since their goal is to promote these artists and causes, you can help with a good cause by coming and watching a show! Who knows, you could even have fun!

– If you need something a bit different than just raging at the bars (or maybe you just want something to do beforehand), head to Beautifully Divine DIY Woodcraft Studio & Custom Gift Boutique for a DIY painting project. Starting at 7 PM for only $25, you can paint your simple plank or board with your own custom design. So let’s get artsy, people!

Saturday, July 7

3 Doors Down and Collective Soul will co-headline a tour this summer dubbed the Rock & Roll Express Tour, with their special guest Soul Asylum at certain shows. With tickets around $50, Daily’s Place is planning on turning up at 7 PM. Keep in mind this started on July 6 and is going to hit 36 states across the nation, with one of their stops being in Jacksonville! Time to rock out and get pumped.

On July 7, Taco Lu is celebrating 10 years in business! With this all day fiesta, if you’re looking for a chance to drink down some margs and fill yourself with tacos, Taco Lu gives you the chance to do so from 11 AM to 11 PM. With both live music and live micro wrestling, there will also be raffle tickets and awesome prizes at this all-day party!

Sunday, July 8

– Need a break from the stress of work or relationship drama? I am always going to recommend so good ‘ole fashioned yoga at Surfer! Prepare to unwind and destress at 10 AM with this free hour of relaxing yoga. Keep in mind that space is limited so signing up through Big Fish Yoga the night before is super helpful. Surfer always has complimentary brunch afterward, as well.

Monday, July 9

– While this World Cup is getting down to final contenders, come to Fionn MacCool’s Irish Pub for the spectacle. From 11:30-5 PM, they get their grub on and their soccer on. If you have any fun watching fútbol, this only goes on until July 18 so come take advantage of their last couple of parties!

 – Every Monday night at 9 PM, Jacksonville celebrates in the best funk-music style at 1904 Music Hall downtown. There is no cover charge and free fireball shots for anyone who performs. There are regular heavy hitters that come through and some newbies, but all are welcome on stage to play some funky classics as well as new jams.

Tuesday, July 10

– Dog Day at the Ballpark is back! Hosted by the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, all Crustacean fans may bring their canine friends to the ballpark (on a leash)! There is also a game against the Chattanooga Lookouts at 7:05 PM. If you’re trying to spend time with your doggie and get in some good baseball, head to the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville for a way to do it all.

– With over 100 artists showcasing their best work, the Jax Beach Art Walk is going down at 5 PM on July 10. The art walk takes place along 1st Street between Sneakers Sports Bar & Grille and Lynch’s Irish Pub. If you’re looking at your home’s art display and thinking you need something new, the Jax Beach Art Walk may be a perfect way to obtain that…and get drunk with your friends.

If you happen to be around Jacksonville this summer and feel your life is lacking vacations, try exploring this city for a good way to kill some time and have some fun. Whether you’re sports-focused or just a dog fan, there are plenty of things to do every day. Share your July 4th week fun using #FrayLife on social!

Need more fun things to do this week? Catch a summer blockbuster at one of Jax’s coolest movie theaters.
