Conquer 2020: Add Rock Climbing To Your New Year Resolutions

Here at Jax Fray we are always looking for new and exciting ways to get active and 2020 is no different! With the Jacksonville terrain pretty flat, it’s tough for Floridians to partake in activities like rock climbing. No need to despair, as the city has a number of rock climbing gyms, where you can get sweaty and try something cool and new. Below, we’ve put together a list of places where you can begin to climb and conquer 2020.

Edge Rock Gym

Getting sweaty has never been so fun! This gym is located off of Phillips highway in Jacksonville, making it a great location for those who live or work on the Southside. This gym offers day passes in addition to memberships, so whether you want to visit this facility every now and then or become a regular, you can. This gym is definitely one of our favorites on the list because it has various walls suited for all levels of climbers. There’s your traditional peg rock climbing wall, bouldering walls and even peg free walls.

#FrayLife Tip: Edge Rock gym gives special military discounts on memberships and daily passes.

Beaches Rock Gym

If you live at the beach, this gym is just a hop, skip and jump away! The atmosphere here is very cool because this place also allows kids, so you can bring along your children or siblings to learn how to climb with you. If you’ve never climbed before, you can also sign up for a class to teach you some of the fundamentals. Learn the ins and outs of climbing with classes like rock wall safety, climbing for beginners and how to boulder climb. The gym also has flexible hours, making it easier to fit a climb into even the most hectic of schedules!

Osprey Cliff

For all of the UNF students reading, this one’s for you. Located on the UNF campus, the Osprey Cliff is a beginner to mid-level climbing wall in the UNF Wellness Center. They even have a club of climbers who meet up a couple times each month to climb here and other places, which is a great way to get active and meet people in the climbing community. This club accepts new and experienced climbers, so whether you are a beginner or a pro you’ll find some really cool friends who enjoy climbing, too!

#FrayLife Tip: Osprey Cliff is also open to the general public for a small fee, and the wellness center has a lot of different fitness activities beyond their really awesome climbing wall.

We know rock climbing is something our fellow Fray-lifers will enjoy because it gets your blood pumping and no climb is ever really like the last no matter how good you are.
