It’s National Sandwich Day, and in recognition of this most important of holidays, we’ve assembled a list of five of our favorite sandwich spots in the Jacksonville area. Between no-BS beachside sub shops, bakeries with quality ingredients at a bargain, and flavorful Cuban food, there are plenty of options for every type of sandwich lover.

European Street Cafe

Across a trio of locations in Jacksonville Beach, San Marco, and Riverside, this collection of family-owned restaurants churns out high-quality sandwiches and baked goods. You’ll want to grab a beer or two from their incredibly stocked selection and grab one of their well-loved sandwiches, like their classic Reuben, brie & beef, and an array of creatively composed triple-decker club sandwiches. Blue Boy Sandwich Shop

Using bread baked fresh in-house every morning, Blue Boy’s been a landmark sandwich shop in the Jacksonville area for 50 years. Their dense, sprawling menu features dozens of hot and cold sandwiches featuring everything from meatloaf to fish fillets to their well-loved pizza burger. Fans of decadent, over-the-top preparations and quick, filling meals on the cheap love this spot. Monday – Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. 6514 Norwood Ave. Jacksonville, FL; blueboysandwiches.com

Angie’s Subs

A favorite among beachgoers looking for a quick and portable meal to bring along to the shore, Angie’s oven-baked sandwiches are second only to their award-winning Southern-style iced tea. Home to some of the finest Cuban food in Jacksonville, 1928’s three locations serve up classic sandwiches like the Cuban and Medianoche, as well as more adventurous fare like The Elena Ruth sandwich, which features turkey, cream cheese, bacon, and guava-strawberry preserves, and a Cuban Sloppy Joe, with Cuban seasoned ground beef, Swiss cheese, and maduros.
