Jax Fray, a new lifestyle and social sports league company, launched in Jacksonville last month.
The company, United Fray, formerly United Social Sports, first started in 2009 in Washington, D.C. It offers six social sports leagues including soccer, softball, volleyball, corn hole, kickball, ultimate frisbee and flag football as well as a host of events, starting with a Valentine’s bar crawl at Jacksonville Beach on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Daniel Baynham is leading the Jacksonville launch and said the company strives to make it easier for their key demographic, ages 22-42, to meet.
“We want to be able to be the conductor for everything active about your life,” he said. “We also want to bring back that college vibe where it was easy to meet people.”
Baynham said Jacksonville is the first city the company chose to expand to.
“Jacksonville is right on the edge of being the next cool, hip place to move especially for college graduates and millennials,” he said. “The cost of living, amount of jobs and weather are great as is the attitude. Folks are really friendly here.”
Though the Washington D.C. area has had nearly 60,000 participants, Baynham said he hopes to have at least several thousand people take advantage of their Jacksonville-based offerings this year.
“I’d like everyone to participate in something with us whether it’s a happy hour, paint night or sports league,” he said. “As we get rolling this year, I expect the spring and fall to be huge.”
Baynham added, “We want to provide a great experience so people spread the word, which is how we grew in D.C. and that’s how we think we’ll do it here too.”
To sign-up for a sports league or event, Baynham said participants are able to register on the website. He added that the fee to join a social sports league ranges from $30-$70 for the entirety of the season.
Baynham said he’s extremely focused on building a community around the company in Jacksonville.
“My goal is to be a vehicle for folks to engage with one another,” he said. “Community is a huge value of ours and we want to offer a way for people to have a good time.”
Jax Fray is hosting a Valentine’s Beach Bar Crawl on Saturday, Feb. 11 starting at 2 p.m. at Brix Taphouse, 300 2nd St. N. in Jacksonville Beach and a launch party on Friday, Feb. 17 from 7-10 p.m. at Brixx Wood Fired Pizza, 220 Riverside Ave.
